Okay that’s the end of my list. I really adore and admire all of those wonderfully made games and such an appreciation for all the works from the amazing people behind that. Giving an inspiration for other software designers or developers or even more by setting a higher standard that we all might not recognize before. Really hope every single game studio or even individual developers behind those games can create many more amazing creation to admire in the future.

added note: If you might be wondering, no I haven’t try every single one of those fifty games, only a few because most of them has a pay tag haha. Next I might share my foundings of beautifully made mobile apps but it probably takes awhile so just wait for it 🙂

Top 25 Beautiful Mobile Games: part 1

Hi, it’s been so long since I’ve written any Medium article and here I am coming back with a totally different approach. So, lately I’ve been all over exploring beautifully made software whether it’s an app or games (quite obsessed frankly). And… I wanna share my foundings. Here’s my personal top 50 games which I think all are beautifully created by heart (yes 50, i’m gonna break it down to two parts).

Wait, please bear in mind that these names are mobile games not PC or console games (because there must be a lot more on those two world) and I don’t identify myself as hardcore gamer or even gamer, so here’s from a casual gamer perspective, yeay.

Travelio App Snapshots

Design Issues

1. Same Illustration

Same illustration for active booking, booking history, and even wishlist which doesn’t give any meaning for users.

2. Currency

Indonesian Rupiah maybe?

3. Accordion without Arrow

Accordion without visual cues of what user can or should do. What is this stack of texts in boxes?
And why is the text below all in caps? Are you angry lion cub? But you said you’re ready to attend to my needs.

4. Contact Us

‘Contact Us’ page with no ability or functionality to ‘contact them’ besides the highlight of contact information. I just hope Travelio add these functionalities (call and email within app) in the near future 🙂

5. Map View Functionality Error

So it happens when you search any property and the results will be shown as a list. Then you can change the view from list into map view. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well which weirdly goes up into nowhere or just crashing back and forth between property results.

6. Sort & Filter

First, when you touch the filter button then this page comes up which called ‘Sort & Filter’ instead of just filter. Just a little shock there because the shift of expectation but I think it’s common to combine this sort & filter features. Second, the numbers on price range are better put above the slider (it’s best practice). Third, I think it’s better to add some color with the ‘more info’ (11+ more/97+ more) button, just to increase the visual hierarchy.

7. Maps

I don’t know if it’s just me or anyone else do this too but it’s quite often that whenever I check on any property information and slide it down, mostly I will slide the pinpoint on the map too and bring it to I don’t know where. It’s quite irritating after a couple times.

8. Profile Edit

So in time that I try to edit my profile, there’s boxes to fill identity number and address. Well, I don’t wanna fill it now so I press the save button to save my profile information as it is. But then, hey, they insist me to fill these identity number and address information (they’re required). This lion cub just become rude towards me 😦

9. Travelio Point History

Travelio point history is put among Travelio rewards FAQ which resembles same visual hierarchy where it supposed to have a different degree, in my opinion.

10. Travelio Rewards FAQ

I think Travelio Rewards FAQ can be made into an accordion to avoid added pages. Just my idea though, but it is fine as it is now.

11. Starts from With Breakfast?

12. Welcome Email

This is actually fine but just hoping for more effort and better designed welcome email for future Travelio users 🙂

13. Front End

Just a little bit too spacey up there on the ‘Unit Details’ header
A little bit miss there, Fullname → Full Name

14. Travelio Rank FAQ

What’s this Travelio Rank? *click it* *FAQ comes up* But it’s down there. User needs to scroll up to see it. Just added effort there for the user.

(+) Design Appreciations

  • There’s trivia information on the bottom of property details. It’s quite fun to found it. And it’s sure a good material for better emotional design based development in the future.
  • You can give some more information if you’re booking for someone else or if you have any special request.
  • There’s also 360 photos for select property!

Snapcart App: UX Analysis

Snapcart Logo

About Snapcart

(based on the App Store description)

When will you be able to earn cashback from your grocery receipt? Snapcart is the mobile application that can give you real cashback, only from snapping grocery receipt.

Snapcart, the most reliable mobile application to give real money according to its users, is the first receipt snapping application in Indonesia and Philippines, where you can earn additional money only by snapping your daily grocery, medicine, and cosmetics receipts.

How to use & benefit for using Snapcart:
1. Shop as usual at your grocery stores, keep the grocery receipt!
2. Snap the grocery receipt in Snapcart application, and wait for your cashback/additional money to arrive in your Snapcart Balance.
3. After your Snapcart Balance reaches a certain minimum amount, you can cash out to various choices: bank transfer, phone credit, e-wallets & other vouchers
4. Get other rewards from other activities in Snapcart: filling in surveys, watching videos, even taking your selfies!

Let’s snap your grocery receipt in Snapcart, the only application that can give you real cashback money

Do you want to get more money from snapping grocery receipts? Only Snapcart that can give you more cashback, for real!

Snapcart App

Snapcart App Preview

Notable Features:
1. Snaptastic — Bonus feature to win prizes
2. Notification Page
3. Snapcart Level & Status
4. Survey, Video, and Sync — To get rewards

Design Issues

1. Little Glitch

A little glitch when opening this app where you can see the changing of letter ‘R’ to ‘r’ in word ‘receipt’.

2. Location Detection

Well, this is actually not an issue but an idea instead. I think it would be wonderful if the app auto-fill the country selection after detecting my location.

3. Scroll Down

Scroll down to see more answer?

4. App Header

It happens when you scroll on main page, then whoa! the app header just crash other design elements there. it’s so bad 😦

5. Back Button

So, I happen to check my notification page and there I found announcement page which is good, then I wanna go back to main page. But, hey, where’s the back button?! Touching the bell icon won’t disappear the notification page as I expected. While swiping the page from left to right, hoping to go back, neither bring me back, instead it brings out the side drawer. Until realizing that the way to go back is you must tap ‘Cashback’ icon on the navigation bar down there. Well, that’s confusing.

6. Front-End Issues

Just down a little for the search bar.

Just placed too far for the title and content there.

7. Copywriting

di bawah or dibawah
1) E-mail or Email (just need consistency) 2) Upper case or lower case 3) Snapcart or snapcart

8. Help Center

Ehm, where is the ‘How to Use’?

Recommendations

  • Fix the app header and think about how to go back from notification page
  • Other issues are considered small problems

(+) Design Appreciation

  • App Tutorial — Snapcart tutorial and introduction is so great that helps you understand the application thoroughly
  • Snaptastic — A great feature designed in an emotional level and fun way that captivates users!
  • Emotion-based Feedback

Seekmi App: UX Analysis

Seekmi Logo

Introduction

Hi again. Lately, I’ve just started my intern in a financial application startup based in Bandung. Working in this startup environment makes me curious about how actually startups in my country, Indonesia, are doing right now. I wanna know how these other people that works and dedicates their life to build up technology implementation in Indonesia. So, I made this bookmarks board of startups in Indonesia first in order to acknowledge their existence (here’s the link: https://enboard.co/startupindoboardbynh). Then I plan to try those digital products and services one by one randomly and try to review it. I’m going to experience whether their website, mobile application, or anything else and try to find some design issues. For then, I think I’m gonna practicing my seeing capabilities as a designer. Because design is a problem solving method, right? Well, I just gonna call this activity as UX analysis although I think it’s not that thorough and it could be called design review or evaluation or anything else but I like to call it as it is haha. So, the first app that I analyze is called Seekmi. Enjoy!

About Seekmi

Link: https://itunes.apple.com/id/app/seekmi/id1110672460?platform=iphone&preserveScrollPosition=true#platform/iphone

Seekmi App

Here’s some looks of Seekmi app. We can see that promotion layout on the upper side and of course the six main services that they give which is AC service/repair, laundry, cleaning service, handyman, plumbing, and electronic repairs.

Other notable features:
1. Subscription Packages
2. MiCredit
3. Referral Code
4. App language change
5. Help section

Design Issues

1. Front-End Development

There are several front-end issues found that displeasing this application use.

App header, although I think this is more of a compatibility issue with my phone
Customer Service section box put too low, you can scroll it and see the actual section box end
Services information put too low
just a little bit content crushing there

2. Promotion Error

There’s a promotion picture that when touched make the app error.

Blank screen error after touching a promotion picture (not all promotion pictures)

3. Update profile

Hey, what’s this button for? *touch it* *pop-up shows* What? But I do nothing. There’s no visual cues that the profile can be edited directly there, user doesn’t get the knowledge that they can or suppose to edit it by tapping on the profile information section view.

4. Progress/Archive

Well, I haven’t use the Seekmi services so you can’t see the on-going projects view. I just wonder is it really necessary to have these progress and archive section side by side. Do we really check the archive (projects history?) section that often? And they also has same one picture which a little bit confusing.

5. Password on Email

After creating my account, I receive a welcome email which is nice. But, wait, that’s not my password. Why do I receive that long combination of letters and numbers? What is that?

6. Click Here Button on Email

And what is this button supposed to mean? Why should I click it? Is this to authenticate my account? But they never said it.

7. Copywriting

Langsung saja nikmati layanan yang ada di Seekmi sekarang juga
1) a little miss, wont → won’t, 2) How to use miCredit ’?’

8. MiCredit Error

1) where’s my referral code? 2) the sharing function doesn’t work

9. Call Button

Do other people notice the difference between the call icon on the left one and the right one?

10. Help Pages

There’s a couple of help pages that only consist of 1 thing and you need to touch it to open it. It just adds a little more effort to read it.

Recommendations

  • Fix the front-end issues and little details that count (like copywriting) which doesn’t take much to tweak
  • Most of the problems are considered to be in functional level issues, so, better repair those functionalities and making sure all of them works especially before adding more features
  • Rethink about the email and user interaction especially on the first email

Notes

  • The device that I’m using for all testing is my phone which is iPhone 6s Plus
